May, 8-9, 2014 the V international conference "Biosystems Engineering 2014" was held in the Estonian University of Life Sciences (Tartu). Representatives of the ITMO University took part in the conference.
Every year the conference "Biosystems Engineering 2014" attracts more and more participants. In 2014 the event was attended by representatives from Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Great Britain, USA, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Turkey and other countries.
On the part ofthe ITMO University the conference was attended by members of the international scientific centre "Biotechnology of the third Millennium", graduate students and masters of the University. During the event, they made presentations on the following topics:
- "Effect of cold treatment on the amino acid composition of veal" (Denis Baranenko);
- "Vegetable ingredients in soft cheese made from concentrated skim milk by ultrafiltration" (Natalia Yakovchenko);
- "The unique characteristics of milky-wax ripe walnuts and their usage" (Olga Orlova);
- "Liposomal beta-carotene as a functional additive in dairy products" (Natalia Skvortsova);
- "Effect of ultrasonic treatment on metabolic activity of Propionibacterium shermanii, cultivated in nutrient medium based on milk whey" (Boris SherShenkov);
- "Fermented sauces for child nutrition from age three" (Alexander Koryagina);
- "Bakery products cooling. Automatic control and maintaining of the bakery products cooling process parameters" (Artem Pastukhov).
Theses of reportspublished in the «Agronomy Research», indexed in databases SCOPUS, CABIN Full Paper and Thompson Scientific database.
In the framework of the conference there was held a round table, attended by representatives of the ITMO University and the Department of Food Science and Technology of the Estonian University of Life Sciences. The opportunities and prospects of cooperation of the two universities were discussed on the meeting. A strategy for the organization and holding of joint scientific projects in the scope of biotechnology and cooperation in the educational process was worked out according to the results of the round table.
The conference program also included a visit to the teaching and laboratory complex of the Department of Food Science and Technology of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, to the fincas "Moostemanor complex", to the exhibition "Oonega rock paintings" and a presentation of Professor Vaino Poikolainen called "Mysterious pictures of Finno-Ugrian rock art". On the final day participants of the conference - representatives of international scientific centre "Biotechnology of the third Millennium" and representatives of the scientific community Finland — participated in the solemn planting of young oaks. The organizersbelieve that it symbolized the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration.
