On 17-20 of September the first international conference "Science of the Future" will be held in St. Petersburg. The conference is dedicated to the integration of Russian science in the global scientific community. The main theme of the conference will be the discussion on the results of work of laboratories created in Russian universities within the RF Government Decree №220. In 2012-2013, some of such laboratories were opened at the ITMO University.
Conference organized by the Ministry of Education of Russia, will take place on the basis of the three universities of St. Petersburg: St. Petersburg State University, ITMO University and St. Petersburg State Polytechnical University. Russian and international experts in the field of mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer technology, mechanics, engineering, energy and other scientific fields will present reports and popular science lectures at the conference. Also the All-Russian youth scientific and technical conference and the exhibition of innovative projects of young scientists are planned.
"Laboratories, which received support from the mega-grants, are now the largest research divisions in our university. We have the opportunity to work on the latest equipment, learn from the experience of leading foreign scientists. It allows solving research problems most efficiently. Conference "Science of the Future" will provide a platform where my colleagues and I will be able to "synchronize watches", share the achievements and discuss issues of concern to the scientific community" Pavel Belov, the head of the Laboratory "Metamaterials" of the ITMO University, says. The university has four research departments within the RF Government Decree №220. In addition to the laboratory "Metamaterials", which together with Pavel Belov is led by Professor Yuri Kivshar from the Australian National University, there is the Institute of science intensive computer technology, led by Professor Peter Sloot from the University of Amsterdam and Professor Alexander Boukhanovsky of the ITMO University; the laboratory of anisotropic and optically active nanostructures, which is headed by Professor Yuri Gun'ko from Irish Trinity College and Professor Anatoly Fedorov of the ITMO University; and the Adaptive and nonlinear control systems lab led by French Professor Romeo Ortega and Professor Alexei Bobtsovfrom the ITMO University.
The ITMO University is the organizer of two profile sections "Computer Technologies" and "Mechanic. Engineering. Energy". For the participants of the "Science of the Future" the excursions to the Optical Museum and international scientific laboratories will be organized at the University. In addition, during the conference on September 18 at the ITMO University a lecture for pupils of 8-11 grades "Optics and art" will be held. It will be read by Sergey Stafeev, the dean of the Faculty of natural science of the ITMO University. Venue: Rm. 301/5, 14 Birzhevaya Line, beginning is at 4 p.m.
