Almost 150 participants of the Summit, including Russian universities participating in the program "5 100", as well as representatives not only of the BRICS countries, but also Mexico, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Malaysia and even Egypt, began their work with a visit to the NRU "Higher school of Economics". During the Days of Russian universities held at the Moscow University, the presentation and discussion of current areas of international cooperation between the two countries in the field of education and new innovative projects were held.
However the main and final event of the day was the ceremony at the Ritz Carlton Moscow, where Phil Batey, the chief editor of the THE World University Rankings, announced the results of ranking of universities of BRICS countries and other countries with rapidly growing economies over the years 2014-2015. Awards were given to universities, who took the first ten positions in the list. The three leaders were: Middle East Technical University (Turkey) - the third place, Tsinghua University (China) - on the second, and the Peking University (China) – the first “gold” position in the list.
In addition, the top ten were: University of Cape Town (Republic of South Africa), Moscow State University. MV University (5th place), National Taiwan University (China), Boğaziçi University (Turkey), Istanbul Technical (Turkey), Fudan University (China) and the University of São Paulo (Brazil).
"I was very surprised by the fact that were three universities of Turkey in this top ten. This result was a surprise to me”, Daria Kozlova, the director of the Institute for International Development and Partnership of the ITMO University, said.
