ITMO University and D-mat have been enjoying a productive cooperation since 2006. The company became widely known for its projects in resource efficiency implemented by individual enterprises and households in different regions of Finland.
"The subject of the D-mat projects matches the main areas of work of our international scientific laboratory. Of particular interest are the studies conducted by the company about the resource consumption per capita depending on lifestyle, occupations, food preferences and the composition of Finnish families. During the realization of this project Finnish colleagues came to an unexpected conclusion that fully vegetarian families are not resource-efficient", said Olga Sergienko, the head of the Department of industrial ecology.
Russian and Finnish experts discussed the ecological projects implemented by the company in the Lahti region, the possibility of joint publications, the research conduction involving students and undergraduates and preparation of master double degree programs with Finnish universities. D-mat Director Michael Lettenmayer held a seminar for students of the Department of Economics and Economic Management on "Methods of research of resource efficiency in the food chain".
ITMO University was represented by Olga Sergienko; Irina Sergeeva, the head of the Department of economics and business activities; Marina Makarchenko, the head of the Department of industrial economics and organization of production; Alexander Didikov and Ana Luisa Simoes Gamboa, associate professors of the Department of Industrial Ecology.
D-mat has many years of fruitful cooperation in the field of research of the resource efficiency with the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy (Germany), universities of Helsinki, Aalto and Lahti. Therefore, for the staff of the International science laboratory of the Faculty of economics and economic management it was very important to discuss the prospects for further collaboration with representatives of the company.
