Some 38 university representatives have passed international exams - FCE (First Certificate in English) and CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) - in November. Examination was conducted over two days in the English First School, which is the ITMO University official partner.
The examinations results appeared in January. Julia Ryabukhina, professor and deputy director of the ITMO University Department of Foreign Languages, got the highest possible rating of "A" for the CAE exam. Inna Anokhina, Catherine Fedorova and Anna Somko, Foreign Languages Department senior lecturers, Vasiliy Leonenko and Alexander Visheratin, the Research Institute of High-tech Computer Technology engineers, showed remarkable results.
"Having this certificate is important for anyone who wants to develop the scientific activity not only in his native country, but also abroad,” said Kristina Ivanova, the deputy director of the ITMO University Foreign Language Training Center. "Fluency in English today is necessary not only for students who are going to study abroad, but also for teachers: for their own research projects conduction, business trips and communication with foreign students. In addition, it helps to create a comfortable English-speaking environment, which is necessary for execution of one of the main objectives of the 5-100 Project - developing cooperation with leading foreign universities."
The new extensive English language training program of ITMO University started on 29 Oct., 2014 as a part of the 5-100 Project. The ITMO University striving for the international acknowledgement involves its active interaction with foreign partners, students, teachers and participation in international events.
