“There is too many information today so we have no time to analyze and understand it. This problem leads to misunderstanding between international partners. We don`t know what other nations think. For example, my students know nothing about Russian way of thinking. That is why my target is to help them understand people from different countries. Furthermore a nation is more than political trends presented by media,” noted Mr. Kammhuber.

Kauko Jamsen also made a report on peculiarities of modern business communication. The ambassador underlined that his journalistic experience helped him to make his report more detailed.

“We are living in digital reality, which affects diplomatic processes. Digital diplomacy includes information and communication technologies that are used for foreign-policy activities. However off-line area also exists. Over the last 20 years international communication system has influenced migration flows and geopolitical trends. We have to put emphasis on this issue,” said Mr. Jamsen.

According to Kauko Jamsen, heads of all countries have to establish international contacts as opposed to focus on raw national interests.

“Providing business communications one has to be open. Currently most companies need digital technologies in order to communicate with partners and clients. It is true that digitalization contributes to effective collaboration but direct contacts are also very important. Russians understand it. Face to face communication differs your country from others where this communicative model is not so popular,” said Finnish ambassador.

Vas Shenoy,” ELF-ENERGY`s” SEO, made a final report. According to Mr. Shenoy, his company deals with renewable energy sources. That is why “ELF-ENERGY” focuses on innovations.

“For many years business was a base of human communication. A possibility of making money made people communicate with each other establishing new contacts. Sometimes it was very risky. Thus entrepreneurs are unreasonable people who develop those territories that politicians afraid to visit,” underlined the speaker.

Vas Shenoy also noted that currently media serves as a propaganda tool. People are tired from plenty of information sources. They don`t want to think and analyze, so they “consume” ready-made facts.

“Modern people focus on high living standards as opposed to be interested in what is happening in the world. Thus to keep in touch with each other we should understand what other people want and share our point of view,” said the speaker.

This round table meeting was organized by “ITMO University Technopark” together with non-profit partnership for the development of international cooperation “Saint Petersburg – London 2003” (“SPL-2003”) and Consulate General of Switzerland.
