ACM ICPC qualification contests 2015-2016 were launched this fall. To reach ACM ICPC final participants from Russia and its neighboring countries participate in annual NEERC Northern Sub-regional contests. Currently programmers from different countries compete with each other at 15 quarter-final contests.

Some 92 programming teams took part in NS NEERC contest. According to the rules programmers have to solve 12 complicated problems in five hours. Then a special test system analyzes these programs checking execution time and used space. To become a winner a team has to solve as many problems as it possible faster than others.

This year ITMO University programming team placed 1st at NS NEERC contest. Anton Kovsharov, who placed 3rd at ACM ICPC 2014, Adam Bardashevich and Vladimir Smykalov  made their best! Nobody except for them solved 12 problems. Moreover, according to young programmers these tasks were quite easy.

“Our students solved all problems in an hour before the end. Usually all results are blocked when time ended. Thus thanks for them this contest was not intriguing,” said Anatoly Shalyto, head of Programming Technology Chair. “It is a wonderful result. I hope our team will also succeed in upcoming qualification contests. It is a young team, which was organized about one year ago. Winners of ACM ICPC 2015 took part in the contest as many times as it possible, thus they couldn`t do that this time. Adam Bardashevich who participated in ACM ICPC-2014, is the most skilled member of ITMO University team. Currently they are going to visit Lyons in order to train together with French programmers.”

Teams from St. Petersburg State University placed 2nd and 3rd. To read ACM ICPC scoreboard click here.

Some 16 teams from ITMO University, St. Petersburg Academic University, Petrozavodsk State University, St. Petersburg State University Northern (Arctic) Federal University and others took part in North-Eastern European Regional Contest. ACM ICPC semi-final will be held on December, 5-6.
