The Fulbright Program is supported by the U.S. State Department and is known worldwide. It provides an opportunity for students, scienticts and professionals to pass postgraduate training, conduct research or teach at universities in the USA and other countries.

The program was founded in 1946 by the U.S. Congress "to provide the Government of the United States the opportunity to improve mutual understanding between the United States and the people of other countries". The project is awarded annually to approximately 6,000 grants totaling more than $ 250 million. Grants are available to students, teachers, specialists and scientists of United States and other countries for study, teaching, research and lecturing in America and 150 countries. The Fulbright Program in Russia offers a lot of opportunities for citizens of U.S. and Russia interested in postgraduate training, lecturing and research activities and other areas of work.

ITMO University actively cooperates for a second year with Institute of International Education (USA). In 2014, the University was visited by Joel Erickson, the director of the Institute of International Education, the doctor of political sciences, the one of the world's leading experts in the field of education and innovation, the head of the Fulbright Program in Russia.

On 12 of February, 2014 for students, teachers and members of ITMO University a public lecture "The Fulbright Program. Innovative universities in the USA" was held. Joel Erickson told about how innovations are implemented at USA universities, and about the possibility of studying abroad in the framework of Fulbright.
