March 3, 2014 the receiving applications for interuniversity competition of research projects of students and postgraduate students «The Big Bang - 3» started. The aim of the competition is to find and support promising hi-tech projects of students and graduate students of universities of Saint-Petersburg in the following areas:

- Information and communication technologies;

- Electronics and instrumentation;

- Photonics and optics;

- Biotechnologies and food technologies;

- Thermal control and refrigeration technologies;

- Nanotechnologies and materials science.

The event is organized by the ITMO University: Department of scientific-educational marketing research, marketing Club and Business network «Marketing in innovation, education and science». The contest is held with the informational support of the Committee for entrepreneurship and consumer market in St. Petersburg.

During the correspondence stage competition experts from leading universities of St. Petersburg will select 20 projects that will be announced April 14 at the site http://www.m2ies.com. At a later stage the expert competitive Commission will include representatives of well-known Russian and international companies: LLC brewing company «Baltika», Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, EMC, Danone-Unimilk, LLC «North-West Technology Transfer Centre», LLC «PCT-invent», ZAO "Center VM-Technologies" and etc.

There should be also noted the official representative of the Fund for assistance to small innovative enterprises in science and technology in St. Petersburg, who won the contest to announce the authors of the best projects that will have the opportunity to take part in the finals of the "wise men" and without preliminary selection. The first contest «The Big Bang» was held in the fall of 2012. Six winners of the competition received a prize iPad tablet, three teams from the winners were trained at Heriot-Watt University in the UK.

The second call for proposals «The Big Bang – 2» caused more interest: the number of participants and partners in 2013 increased significantly. Successful experience of such contests allowed to bring action to city level. Now students from other universities of St. Petersburg can provide expert Commission their own research projects, get the necessary consultation and compete for the crown.

Applications for participation in the competition are accepted till March, 30.
