The final session of the competition was held on October 24 at the hotel "October". First place went to Arthur Gleym’s project "Quantum Communications", the second – to the project "Laser-plasma technologies of synthesis of superhard coatings and surface modifications of metals" of Pavel Ovchinnikov from Moscow "Optograd Nanotech" Company, the third – to the "Fiber optic hydrophone for seismic measurements" project of Semen Plyastsov. All the winners received prizes, diplomas and the right to the three million rubles grant of the Skolkovo Fund. 

The final session, which ended October 24, was the result of the finalists’ two-week work on their projects in collaboration with a team of mentors led by Igor Kudinov, the director of the ITMO University business incubator. For 10 days the projects were prepared for presentation to a jury composed of representatives from industry, the Skolkovo Fund, foreign universities and companies from Germany, Canada, Ireland and the Netherlands. The jury was headed by Vladimir Vasiliev, the rector of the ITMO University.

An important part of the event was a roundtable on the problems of technology transfer in Russian universities. The essence of the debate, which was opened by Philip Kazin, the head of the Department of the design and innovation activity at the ITMO University, was the discussing the motivation of scientists to work in the area of commercialization of intellectual property, the possible challenges, and their solutions. In particular, it was a question of new mechanisms of intensification of work of universities with the industrial companies, development institutions, venture capital funds and other market participants. The round table was attended by Andrei Lyshenko, the head of the Information Technology Unit of the Science and Technology Department of the Ministry of Education of Russia, Stephen Hagen, the vise president for the Change Management of the ITMO University, Igor Rozhdestvenskiy, the director of the "Ingria" business incubator, Alexander Marmalyuk, the deputy Director of the Stelmach Research Institute “Polyus”, Alexander Fertman, the director of nuclear cluster science of the Skolkovo Fund, George Palikaras, the president of the MTI Company (Canada), Pavel Belov, the head of the Metamaterials Laboratory of the ITMO University, and many others.

Arthur Gleym, the contest winner, the chief director of the "Quantum communication", noted the high level of the projects presented at the final: "A serious selection of projects has occurred on the primary stage of the competition. There are very interesting and really promising developments among the finalists. As for the victory of the "Quantum communication", it should be noted that the serious two years work stands for it. Two years of doubt and search for the correct wording. Now we are focused on obtaining a license - the next important stage in the development of our project".
