Apart from Mr. Vasilyev the delegation of ITMO University included Daria Kozlova, vice rector for international relations, Alexey Romanov, head of International Laboratory “Advanced Nanomaterials and Optoelectronics,” and Sergei Molodtsov, University of Freiburg`s professor and co-director of Transnational Scientific and Education Center for Methods of Advanced Materials Research UniFEL.
ITMO University started to collaborate with Freiberg University of Mining and Technology last year when international researchers launched a joint project for promising nanocarbon materials. The research is based on facilities of University of Freiburg, BESSY-II, and European XFEL research centers. The research aimed to discover some properties of electronic structure of a new type of grapheme. It was provided through x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy using ESCALAB™ 250Xi unit. A new type of graphene repaired with the assistance of this technology has low defect concentration. It can be used for development of new electronic and optical devices.
“The UniFEL was launched in June 2015 as a result of a framework agreement so as to follow activities of European x-ray free electron laser (European XFEL) and interact with Freiberg University…The center focuses on joint research projects, that include development of new methods and preparation of materials, as well as training programs for researchers. We develop these activities in alliance with German colleagues,” noted Professor Alexey Romanov.
