No other area of the building was affected. A preliminary report suggests that a short-circuit failure was the cause of the fire.
On the Fire Incident at ITMO’s Birzhevaya Building
On December 29, 2019 around 7 p.m. a fire emergency occurred at one of the offices on the second floor on Birzhevaya, 14. The alarm went off, making it possible to quickly localize and put out the fire. According to the main office of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in St. Petersburg, the outbreak area was no more than 8 m², and only security staff were present during the incident. There were no casualties.
