  • Researchers Train AI to Identify Anti-Cancer Nanoparticles

    Chemists at ITMO University have designed an AI-based platform that identifies nanoparticles with selective cytotoxicity to cancer cells. According to the corresponding article in Small, the system should be expected to optimize particle synthesis and reduce the side effects of cancer treatment.

  • SCAMT Workshop Week: Implement Your Project and Enroll Into Master’s at ITMO Without Exams

    SCAMT Workshop Week is a research school, where Russian and international students can develop their projects and earn a chance to enroll into the university’s Master’s programs without exams. During the week, the participants work on their ideas and attend lectures from ITMO experts and guest speakers.   • ITMO Students Launch Stratosphere Satellite to Analyze Bone Tissue Formation in Low Gravity

    Bion Space, a team of ITMO students, became one of the finalists in the Stratosphere Satellite research and engineering program. Their project became a part of a research probe sent into the stratosphere on November 19 to analyze the way lower gravity can affect the biomimetic process of bone-like tissue formation.   • ITMO Scientists First to Propose Binary Antisense Agent for Cancer Treatment

    A research team from ITMO’s ChemBio Cluster and the University of Central Florida has developed a binary antisense oligonucleotide (a short DNA molecule produced by chemical synthesis) that consists of two oligonucleotide chains. As one part of the chain targets a tumor marker and the other – a vital housekeeping gene, the technology allows scientists to target cancer cells without harming the healthy ones.

  • Geneticist Bayazit Yunusbayev On How Genetics Can Help Fight Autoimmune Diseases

    For several years Bayazit Yunusbayev had been studying the mechanisms behind the autoimmune and allergic diseases at the University of Tartu (Estonia), and last year he joined ITMO’s SCAMT Institute, where he heads the Evolutionary Biomedicine group, to continue with his research.
