According to the representatives of Gorod-Sputnik Yuzhny, LLC, the transport hub will be situated on the territory adjacent to ITMO University’s new campus.
“The development of the transport infrastructure in the southern planning area will be synchronized with the district’s development. It’s clear that ITMO Highpark must be provided with sufficient transport infrastructure. For the innovation center to be fully operational, we have to guarantee the mobility of the university’s students and staff, the citizens of Yuzhny and Pushkin, and the visitors of the congress center. This also offers an opportunity to resolve the comlex traffic issues in the southern part of the area and provide the necessary reserve of traffic capacity for the major highways,” comments Sergey Khromov, the CEO of Gorod-Sputnik Yuzhny, LLC.
The construction of various road network objects and the transport hub were included in the layout of the transportation facilities of the southern planning area that was designed by the Center of Transport Planning of St. Petersburg.
It is expected that the hub will connect the routes of several modes of public transport: intercity and international bus routes, railroads (according to a concept developed by Russian Railways, that will be the St. Petersburg - Gatchina-Varshavskaya line), and a new light rail tram line.
The committee on amendments to St. Petersburg’s general site plan has approved several proposals of the St. Petersburg committee for transport infrastructure development that concern the organization of additional transport services for the citizens of the Yuzhny satellite city and the residents of ITMO Highpark. That includes new transport routes in the southern part of the city, including tram lines to the new campus of St. Petersburg State University, a line from the Volkhonskoe Highway to the Pulkovo Airport, and a light rail tram line to the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition Center and the Yuzhny satellite city.
Another measure that has been planned in order to provide for the accessibility of the satellite city involves the construction of a highway along the railroad from the Southern Lateral Highway to the border of St. Petersburg. For now, the development plan of ITMO Highpark is designed for the territory confined within the Kievskoe Highway, the Southern Lateral Highway, the rail right-of-way and the administrative border with the Leningrad Oblast.
At the initiative of the city administration, three new freeway junctions in the Yuzhny satellite city will be added to St. Petersburg’s general site plan. Their construction will make it easier for the citizens of Lesnoe and Kondakopshino to access the Kievskoe highway.
