Quantumania, ITMO-style

A recent study by physicists from ITMO University reveals a promising new way to generate quantum entanglements – elements crucial to the development of advanced quantum computers and similar devices. More specifically, the method proposed by the scientists is novel in that it makes the generated systems more easily modifiable, solving an important obstacle in the creation of the next generation of computing.

ITMO Fellows talk research, careers, and success

The ITMO Fellowship program provides researchers from around the globe to grow as professionals, share their experience with students and fellow scientists, and enjoy access to the university’s high-end facilities. Last month, we spoke to two ITMO Fellows to gain some insight into their vital research:

  • Medical scientist Tamer Abdelrazik is working on solutions to an extremely important issue: the growing level of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. What has science accomplished in this fight and what’s next? Learn here

  • Meanwhile, his colleague Ahmed Eldeeb is developing DNA bots for gene therapy and diagnostics. What does this research field have in store and what is it like to become the head of a frontier laboratory at 23? Learn here

Science

Data + chemistry = future

As the volume of data produced by humans grows to unimaginable heights, scientists ponder the question: how can we store it all? The answer might just lie with chemistry. One of the world’s foremost chemical experts recently spoke at length about the prospects of molecular data storage – and ITMO.NEWS wrote down the key points.
