The winning team MackHackers developed a web service for Setl Group’s inner knowledge base that is equipped with an AI search, analytics, and a secure record of document changes. The solution was created by students of ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty: Lev Zhitnikov, Budimir Topalo, Ilya Berlyakov, and Artem Shamshin. The team came up with a digital environment where the company’s employees can quickly find regulations, documents, and other materials, take courses, and read corporate news. The top priority for the team was to reduce search time.

The students split the work on their project into front- and backend: backenders were in charge of the data storage logic, structure, and quick search, while frontenders were to ensure the product’s interface is user-friendly. The hackathon’s experts praised the solution’s UX focus and well-designed architecture.

“The biggest challenge we faced was that we had to develop the project’s logic and efficiently distribute work across the team in a short time. What helped us were regular calls, micro-planning, and synchronized sprints. Importantly, we also had to appoint key roles in frontend and backend right away. This way, we ended up with not just a prototype demo – but a minimum viable product (MVP) and completely functioning code that can be developed  further. We hope Setl Group will adopt our solution in the future,” says Lev Zhitnikov, a member of the team and a student at ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.

The expert board included Setl Tech specialists: Andrey Yarosh, the head of IT projects; programmers Denis Filatov and Alexander Kiselev, as well as Daniil Luchka and Alexander Samsonov, specialists in implementing innovative software products. The hackathon was organized by Anastasia Kudryavtseva, a specialist at ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty and Sviatoslav Stumpf, the head of several educational programs at ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.

Setl Tech is a subsidiary IT company owned by Setl Group, one of the construction leaders in Russia, which produces and implements field-specific digital solutions in customer operating systems.
