The Order of Alexander Nevsky is awarded to civil workers of the Russian Federation, for special services to the Fatherland in the matter of state building, long-term conscientious service and high results in an official position. A citizen has to be employed in civil service for at least 20 years.
Vladimir Vasilyev has been Rector of ITMO University since 1995 (re-elected four times). Apart from the Order of Alexander Nevsky, he has received the Order of Honour, the Order of Services to the Fatherland (IV degree), a certificate from the State Duma and other awards. In addition, Vladimir Vasilyev has received the title of “Honorary Research Fellow of the Russian Federation” and “Honorary Citizen of St. Petersburg”.
