In this RUR ranking the university's scientific research is assessed based on five indicators. Among those are citations per academic and research staff, normalized citation impact, doctoral degrees per admitted PhD, papers per academic and research staff and global research reputation. For the last indicator, ITMO got its best results - 80 points, and was ranked 138th worldwide.
Among other Russian leading universities were National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, that made it in the top-200, the "golden league" of the rankings (177th position), Novosibirsk State University and Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology were in the top-400, "bronze league". M. V. Lomonosov Moscow State University and Ufa State Aviation Technical University made it into the top-500, the "copper league". And the “world league” had the remaining Russian universities that made it to the rankings, Tomsk State University, Kazan Federal University, The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, ITMO University and Gubkin Russian State Oil and Gas University.
RUR is a Russian ranking agency that has existed since 2013. It works on the Round University Rankings and is an official representative of the British International university ranking Times Higher Education in Russia and countries of the CIS.
We'd like to add that earlier, on April 7th, the RUR rating results for the quality of teaching were published. ITMO University was in the top-200.
