The universities were evaluated based on such criteria as the demand for their graduates and research, as well as its intellectual products commercialization.
132 universities were included into the engineering group; as for the others, there were 89 classical universities, 53 managerial universities, 68 — in humanities, 47 in medicine and 57 universities in the agricultural group.
National Research Nuclear University MEPhI was named best in engineering. It has a high rate of graduates that potential employers are interested in (87%), and its staff has a substantial citation index (39). As for the research commercialization criterion, MEPhI's results were not very high with only 32.2%. ITMO University, however, had one of the highest results in this area with 47.2%. The demand for its graduates ran at 54.2%, and the citation index of its researchers was 24. All in all, both universities kept their leading positions from last year.
Among the other engineering universities that got into the top were Samara State University, Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Perm National Research Polytechnic University, Kazan National Research Technological University and Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University.

The organizers of the ranking note that it reflects real results of the universities progress from the market point of view. Also, it gives the applicants information on where they can learn an in-demand profession.
