  • RAEX Ranking 2020: ITMO University Rated Russia’s First in Computer Science

    The RAEX rating agency has published its latest annual subject rankings of scientific productivity and invention (patent) activity among Russian universities. ITMO University is included in the top 10 of both rankings. The University also came first out of all Russian universities in the subject ranking for computer science and in a narrower field of hardware architecture.

  • ITMO Graduate and Serokell Co-Founder Arseniy Seroka on Science, Haskell and Working Out of Office

    In 2015, ITMO University alum Arseniy Seroka and his Riga-based colleague Jonn Mostovoy founded a company that has now grown to 60 people. The team doesn’t have an office, rigid working hours or a dress code – today, Serokell is powered by specialists from different parts of the world, living in different timezones. Such an unconventional structure doesn’t hinder the company from growth and development, supporting ITMO’s international “Computer Technologies” laboratory, and leading research projects at the university. In this interview with ITMO.NEWS, Arseniy shares about why it’s important for an IT company to help young scientists, how Serokell is writing a book about their unique collaboration format, and why you shouldn’t take the easy route if you dream about a successful career in IT.

  • ITMO University Launches Public Discussion on Proposed Changes to School Curricula in Computer Science

    This year, ITMO University became a developer of the draft contents of core curricula for basic general (grades fifth to ninth) and secondary general education in the field of computer science. The work is implemented on the commission of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation. Until December 9, 2019, teachers and heads of education institutions can analyze the university’s suggestions and give their own evaluation and feedback on the project.   • ITMO Ranked Among Top 100 Best IT Universities in THE Computer Science Ranking

    The Times Higher Education (THE) magazine has published its 2019 subject rankings of the world’s best Computer Science and Engineering and Technology universities. For the fourth year in a row, ITMO comes first out of all Russian universities in the Computer Science ranking, keeping its position in the top-100 best universities in the world. The university has also gone up in the Engineering and Technology ranking, where it appears for the third time in a row. In this subject ranking, ITMO University holds the 201-250 place and comes second after Lomonosov Moscow State University out of all Russian universities.

  • Open Doors Competition for Tuition-Free Master’s Studies in Russia: ITMO to Coordinate Computer & Data Science Track

    The organizing committee of the Open Doors international competition has announced the start of the qualification round, which is a portfolio contest, for international prospective Master’s students wanting to study in Russia. 2019 will be the third year that the competition has been hosted.   • IT for Financial Experts: Bank Saint Petersburg Employees Received ITMO University Professional Development Certificates

    The conference hall of Bank Saint Petersburg hosted the closing ceremony of the professional development course created by ITMO University’s National Center for Cognitive Technologies (NCCT). Each participant was granted standard-issue certificates and three students with the highest scores received special gifts from the NCCT.   • Russian School Students Score a Resounding Victory at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics

    A team of Russian school students helmed by coaches from the country’s leading universities has won four gold medals becoming best in the team event at the 2019 International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). In IOI’s individual event, Russia’s Ildar Gainullin posted the world’s second-best result. One of the most prestigious computer science competitions in the world, this year’s Olympiad is being held on August 4-11 in Baku, Azerbaijan.
