  • ITMO University and University of Lorraine Expand Opportunities for Student and Staff Mobility

    Starting from the new academic year, Master’s and PhD students at ITMO University will be given the opportunity to participate in academic exchanges and internships at the University of Lorraine (Université de Lorraine, UL), one of France’s largest and highest-rated universities. Moreover, ITMO and UL will be able to exchange professors who will give topical lectures on a wide range of subjects. Such an expansion of the mobility opportunities available has been made possible thanks to an Erasmus+ program grant. We spoke to Alexandre Nominé, a senior research associate at ITMO University’s Faculty of Physics and Engineering and ITMO Fellow, to find out more about the cooperation, requirements for participating in the Russian-French mobility program, and its future prospects.

  • How Russian and French Researchers are Helping to Restore Classic Art

    Terahertz radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation located within the frequency spectrum between infrared and radio. It passes well through a variety of materials and is harmless to humans, which opens up a wide range of its possible applications. Researchers at ITMO University are actively working on this subject in collaboration with their French colleagues. Together, the scientists are developing a pulsed terahertz spectrometer for application in the analysis and restoration of artworks.   • French Embassy Counselor Visits ITMO University

    ITMO continues to develop and expand its international partnerships and collaborations. This week, the University welcomed Abdo Michel Malac, the Counselor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of France in Russia. Mr. Malac met the staff of the Faculty of Physics and Engineering and spoke of the Embassy’s willingness to offer support in conducting joint Russian-French events. He also attended the opening of a new Russian-French laboratory at ITMO University.

  • ITMO Master’s Student on ECNP Workshop in Nice

    Vladimir Romanov is a Master’s student at ITMO University’s Faculty of Food Biotechnologies and Engineering. At the beginning of March, he went to Nice (France) to take part in a three-day workshop for young scientists hosted by the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP). The goal of this workshop is to promote experimental and clinical research of brain disorders and their treatment. During the workshop, the student presented his research on the correlation between vitamin D deficiency and depression in postmenopausal women. ITMO.NEWS talked to Vladimir about his research and discussed how vitamin D can increase the efficiency of hormone replacement therapy.
