  • Limitless Fashion: Developing Adaptive Clothing For The Disabled

    The Limitless Fashion project was founded in 2016 by Valeria Kudrina, a student of Saint-Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design who’d been working with disabled people for several years by then. Some time later, she was joined by Polina Andreeva, her peer. The two students who studied on a costume design program started to develop a project on designing adaptive clothing for wheelchair users of different ages. The project got second place in the People Need You! federal contest conducted by ITMO’s Volunteer Center, and got into Tommy Hilfiger’s selection of top-20 socially important projects. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Polina Andreeva spoke about how their project helps integrate handicapped people into society.

  • Russian and Swiss Students Collaborate on Social Issue Initiatives

    Last week ITMO University and the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland conducted a short-term exchange involving 30 students from Switzerland and Russia. The students discussed and collaborated on various practices related to social entrepreneurship. ITMO’s Social Design and Entrepreneurship Center organized the exchange as part of a program for international youth exchange in social services.   • Volunteering Unlimited: Students from Russia's 35 Regions Presented Their Projects in Yagodnoe

    This year, ITMO University was the organizer of the federal People Need You! contest. For the first time in the project's history, the semi-finals were conducted as a summer camp in the Yagodnoye. The camp’s participants presented 90 projects in six categories to an expert jury. The event was conducted with support from the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the Gazprom Neft Company.

  • Coordinating Blood Banks and Organizing International Summer Camps - How One Develops Social and Ecological Projects?

    At the beginning of this year, Roman Malushkin, ITMO's Master's student and graduate of the "People need you!" program on social projects, started to work on a system that will make the work of medical centers, blood banks and volunteers easier, as well as inform donors of the upcoming donor events. As a result, he created a service that will be tested this autumn during the Donor Day at ITMO University, and then introduced in other organizations.     A delegation of ITMO and other Russian universities took part in the internship devoted to social entrepreneurship and design by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Russians presented their projects to American experts and learned how people can be volunteers and businessmen at the same time.

    The International Social Entrepreneurship Festival took place in the Loft Project ETAGI last week. Young activists from Russia, the USA, India, Switzerland, Ireland and Cameroon presented their projects. After the two-week event judges announced the best solutions. The festival was organized by ITMO University and the California State University, Los Angeles.
