  • Art Born of Slime Moulds and Bacteria: ITMO Hosts BioArt Workshops

    On February 1-23, the A.S. Popov Central Museum of Communications hosted Measure of Chaos. Science as a Means of Communication, a wide-ranging Art&Science project that included workshops and lectures on this interdisciplinary field. LIFE FORMS, one of the key tracks of the project, focused on generative biology, bioethics and other disciplines within BioArt, which is among the most popular fields of Art&Science. ITMO University took part in this track by organizing a BioArt weekend. Laura Rodríguez, a specialist in the field of microbiology and a second-year Master’s student at ITMO’s Art&Science Master’s program, hosted two workshops on BioArt.

  • Artist and Biologist Ippolit Markelov on Russian Science Art and Collaborating With Scientists

    Ippolit Markelov has visited ITMO with a series of science art workshops for ITMO’s Art & Science Master’s program. Over the course of two weeks, the students learned the many ways they could use micro-, molecular and neurobiology as well as genetic engineering in their art projects.   • Student Entrepreneurial Communities: Finnish and Russian Experience

    Can students organize the region’s largest startup festival? How do student entrepreneurial communities operate in Finland? And how can Finland and Russia cooperate in this field? These were the central questions of a strategic session that has recently taken place at ITMO University as part of the Startup Connect project. During the session, representatives of ITMO and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) shared their experiences of organizing these communities and discussed the opportunities for the development of joint initiatives in this field.

  • Chemistry Without Borders: 30 Russian and British Researchers Discuss Collaboration in Liverpool

    An international workshop on the development of complex materials and self-regulating chemical systems took place in Liverpool this October. It was organized by ITMO University and the University of Liverpool with support from the British Council. The main feature of the event was its interdisciplinary approach, as it brought together not only specialists in the field of chemistry, new materials development and energetics, but also physicists and IT, management systems, and robotics specialists. Over the course of three days, 30 Russian and British researchers shared the results of their projects and discussed prospects for collaboration.

  • Making Vasilievsky Island More Comfortable: Results of Workshop by European Designers

    As part of the Global Academics track, ITMO University’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations invited two specialists in the field of digital media and design, Andrew Bullen (France) and Janine Huizenga (the Netherlands). The experts organized a two-week course for ITMO University Master’s students, which resulted in the creation of four projects aimed at improving various areas of Vasilievsky Island.   • Urban Development Expert On Making Cities More Comfortable to Live In

    What has changed in urban planning over the last 100 years? What future lies ahead of industrial centers? And what do small Northern cities in Norway and Russia share in common? These and other questions were discussed during an open lecture by Norwegian specialist in the field of urban planning and technologies Gunnar Olav Furu. He is the head of a private consulting agency and has implemented a range of urban development projects in his home city of Sunndal. The lecture and an interactive workshop took place at ITMO University’s Institute of Design and Urban Studies with the support of the Consulate of Norway.

  • BizCycle Workshop in Vyborg: Creating Comfortable Biking Infrastructure

    What facilities do bike travelers need? How to create a bike-friendly environment in the border regions of Russia and Finland? And how can entrepreneurs contribute to this process? These and other questions were discussed at a workshop for the representatives of small and medium-sized businesses of the Leningrad Oblast and Southeast Finland, which took place in Vyborg. The event was organized as part of the BizCycle international project aimed at developing the bicycle tourism ecosystem in the border regions of Russia and Finland. Among the project’s partners is ITMO University. The workshop brought together entrepreneurs from the Leningrad Oblast and the Kotka-Hamina region, as well as students of several St. Petersburg’s universities.

  • Intensive Workshop on Integrated Management Systems Held for ITMO Master’s Students

    On May 6-10, 2019, an intensive one-week workshop on integrated management systems was hosted for the students of ITMO University's international Master's program “Industrial Ecology and Cleaner Production”. Complemented by a workshop for the teaching staff, it was given by professors of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (Germany). The cases used were provided by the company TÜV.

  • Business Model Canvas: Visualizing Your Business Ideas

    What is Business Model Canvas and how can it help startupers in forming and developing their business ideas in the shortest amount of time possible? This was the focus of an intensive workshop recently hosted by ITMO University, the participants of which included over 20 students from Russia and Finland. The workshop was delivered by experts from Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK), who also shared about other tools for management of business processes and the difference in business approaches in Russia and Finland.
