• I Am a Professional Competition for Students: ITMO in Top Ten Universities by the Number of Winners

  Last week, results were announced of the latest, third run of the national competition for students “I Am a Professional”. ITMO retained its position in the ranking of the universities with the highest number of winners: 94 of its students made it to the finals this year, with 10 winning bronze, six – silver, and four – gold medals. Most of the winners emerged in the nominations traditional to ITMO: Robotics, Programming and Software Engineering, Information and Cyber Security. • Living Paintings, Eco-Friendly Education and Compact Robots: The Results of “It’s Your Call!” Winter School

  The winter school "It’s Your Call!" 2020, jointly organized by ITMO University and Sberbank is over. Five days of lectures, workshops and teamwork under the leadership of a mentor allowed each of the eighteen teams to complete their own project and defend it as a short presentation. Top six projects made it to the finals, while the winning team received not only the opportunity to enter ITMO University without having to pass the entrance exam, but also valuable gifts – electric scooters.

  This year, ITMO University hosted the third winter school “It’s Your Call!” for participants of the “I am a Professional” student competition. Sberbank served as the general partner of the school that annually brings together students from all over Russia. The school consists of workshops, lectures and tours of major companies and research institutions. Last week, the participants went to Laser Systems, a high-tech company based in Strelna. There, they discovered how lasers can help make flights safer and detect the level of someone’s alcohol intoxication and saw a 3D printer working with metal powders.

• I am a Professional: Gold Medal Winners Share Their Experience

  Just recently, the award ceremony of the “I am a Professional” competition took place in Moscow. This year, 3,472 of over 500,000 students became prize winners. Over 100 participants received gold medals, including four ITMO students and one graduate. Apart from cash prizes, the winners got benefits for applying for Master’s and PhD programs as well as an opportunity to do internships at major companies. We spoke to the winners to learn why they participated in the competition, what helped them win, and how they plan to use their prizes.
