  • ITMO University Team Wins 3rd CTF Russian Cup

    The final round of the 3rd CTF Cup, a national competition in the field of information security, has come to an end at the Skolkovo Innovation Center. Winners of regional CTF competitions and developers of CTF games came together to determine which Russian team is the strongest. Taking part in the Cup were 15 teams, including winners of such prominent competitions such as RuCTF, CyBRICS, NordCTF and others. But it was ITMO University’s team that took the first place of the large-scale tournament.

  • Fort Boyard: ITMO University Hosts Information Security Quest

    ITMO University and The Institute of Cryptography, Telecommunications and Computer Science of the Academy of the Federal Security Service of Russia have hosted an information security quest for St. Petersburg school students. Gathered at ITMO’s Lomonosova St. 9 campus, the participants were taught about data protection and encryption in the game format. ITMO.NEWS braved the quest alongside the students to find out about the simplest ways of encrypting a letter and tricks to detect hidden cameras.

  • ITMO University Specialists Take First Place at International Competition VolgaCTF 2019

    The Russian city of Samara has recently hosted the international competition for information security specialists VolgaCTF. ITMO University was represented by two teams, LC↯BC and Kappa. We quizzed their captains on their training, new SPbCTF workshops season and benefits of sports hacking.

  • ITMO University Teams Take the Crown at Yauza CTF-2019, RealCTF and FaustCTF Cybersecurity Competitions

    ITMO University teams came in top places at the cybersecurity competitions Yauza CTF-2019 (gold, silver and bronze), RealCTF (silver and bronze) и FaustCTF (the SPbCTF team emerged second). ITMO.NEWS met winning teams’ members, all students of Information Technologies and Programming Faculty and the Faculty of Secure Information Technologies, to talk about their experiences.

  • ITMO University Team Takes Third Place in RuCTF 2019

    At the end of April, the Russian city of Ekaterinburg hosted RuCTF, the biggest competition in the field of cybersecurity in Russia. The event brought together 28 teams from Russia, Germany, Switzerland and other countries, including a total of three teams from ITMO University, one of which took third place.

  • Talented School Students Awarded at ITMO University

    On April 18, ITMO University’s Faculty of Secure Information Technologies hosted the awards ceremony for the winners of the сompetition in computer science, computer security, mathematics, and cryptography organized by the Russian Council for Competitions for School Students. The main prize of the competition is a chance to get admitted to ITMO University without entrance exams, and some of the winners are definitely going to use this opportunity.

  • Sberbank’s Cyber-Security Staff on Protecting Bank’s Network Perimeter

    Late February marked the end of “It’s Your Call!” winter school, organized by ITMO University in collaboration with Sberbank. Alexey Voloshchuk, the head of the St. Petersburg branch of the bank’s Cyber-Security Center, and Vladislav Verus, one of center’s staff members, contributed to the school’s program with an open lecture during which they shared some insights into the center’s approach to maintaining the integrity of the bank’s network perimeter.

  • UniverSum Summer School: Competitive Hacking for School Students

    The coordinators of the SPbCTF project held a “Hacking and security” workshop for the participants of the  UniverSum  summer school which took place in Munich from June 27 to July 11. What makes  UniverSum  truly special is its unique educational approach: students are allowed to choose their own educational track. This autumn, SPbCTF will launch a new season of workshops on sports hacking for school children and students of St. Petersburg.
