Maksim Myagkih, a student at ITMO’s Faculty of Photonics, has designed a prototype of a powered backpack that charges up when you walk. We asked Maksim how fast you’ll need to run to charge your phone, what other devices are compatible with the backpack, and whether it can replace the common portable charger or power bank in the future.

  • ITMO Student Artur Shaikhatarov on Helping People with Special Needs

    Artur Shaikhatarov started to work on a mobile app for the deaf-blind back when he was a school student in Ufa, in the Russian republic of Bashkortostan. Now, he studies at ITMO University, and his invention has brought the attention of the Russian MChS and the International Paralympic Committee. ITMO.NEWS met with Artur to learn more about why he decided to work on this project, how he plans to provide the deaf-blind with useful equipment, and whether he expects to see his app at the Paralympic Games.

  • Bike Ride With the Rector 13.0: Participants Share Their Impressions

    This Wednesday, ITMO students and staff gathered at the Krestovsky Ostrov metro station for a traditional bike ride with ITMO’s Rector Vladimir Vasilyev. The relentless downpour and strong wind, which had been spoiling the mood of the city’s residents all day, did not scare the cyclists away. Among those who were not intimidated by the bad weather was also an ITMO.NEWS journalist, who joined the cyclists and talked to some of the participants.

    Nikolay Budin became a winner in the Code category. In total, over 20,000 students from different parts of Eurasia competed in six categories. The award ceremony took place at Yota Arena in Moscow.
