  • Manage! Cup Semifinals: Participants Share

    Just imagine that you get to manage a company, and all of its management has just been dismissed? You only have the enterprise's financial data, and you have to choose the optimal strategy that will enhance its investment appeal. What’s more, you only have a day to solve this task, and you don’t know anyone on the team you’ll be working with! These are the kinds of tasks that the participants of the Manage! cup, a countrywide management tournament for students, have to solve. The cup’s semifinals have just taken place in St. Petersburg; the 30 best teams were chosen to participate in the finals in Moscow on March 11-12. The tournament’s winners will be offered internships at the country's leading companies,  as well as the opportunity to participate in Global Management Challenge - a national business management championship.

  • More than Beauty: Winners of Mister ITMO 2018 on What It Takes to Win

    Eight students from ITMO University spent nearly two months preparing for this winter’s Mister ITMO contest. In addition to spending long hours at the gym, the contestants also edited their videos, learned new dance moves and discovered new talents. In the end, the title of Mister ITMO went to Egor Marinenkov, a student of ITMO’s School of Computer Technologies and Control; Ilya Chistyakov of the Information Technologies and Programming Faculty became the “vice-mister”; and the audience’s choice award went to Konstantin Pervukhin, a third-year Faculty of Laser and Light Engineering student and a fledgling entrepreneur. The winners spoke to ITMO.NEWS and explained how they managed to prepare for the competition while studying and working, whether it is truly harder to perform on stage than to write code and why Mister ITMO is far from the usual beauty or talent contest.

  • All-Russian NTI Engineering Competition: Young Engineers’ Budding Talent

    Participants of the All-Russian NTI Engineering Contest were given a chance to take on the role of space engineers, design houses of the future and solve problems at the intersection of biology and nanotechnology and much more. The competition’s assignments were grouped into 17 different profiles. ITMO developed one of them: the "Nanosystems and nanoengineering" track. It was a joint project together with Moscow colleagues. Two main features of the competition are its project orientation and teamwork. Schoolkids from Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan competed against each other in two rounds. Contestants who showed the best results are going to the Sirius Educational Center in Sochi for finals, where they will have to solve problems that were designed in accordance with the requirements of modern high-tech industries. ITMO.NEWS have found out: what distinguishes the NTI Competition from other such contests, why it is more productive to work in a team than alone, and what prizes the winners will be getting.

  • Initiative Is Encouraged: How To Get Funding From Academic Mobility Support Office

    The contest for getting funding for internships in Russia and abroad conducted by ITMO’s Academic Mobility Support Office gives students an opportunity to go on internships that take up to one month. Such events can be of different formats - internships, conferences, summer and winter schools, seminars, symposiums, and any other kinds of educational and research activities that are conducted in collaboration with other universities and research centers. Those who have already participated in such internships and those who will only just go for one share about the opportunities offered by the contest.

  • Interstellar Performance: ITMO Student Wins Gagarin Scholarship

    41 students from 14 Russian regions participated in the second annual open competition for the Yuri Gagarin scholarship. Tatiana Shemigon, Master’s student at ITMO’s Department of Applied and Computer Optics, was among the three winners of the award this year. She is the first ITMO student to receive this prestigious scholarship.

  • ITMO Graduate’s Project Wins Lexus Design Award

    Nadejda Abdullina, graduate of ITMO’s Institute of Design & Urban  Studies,  and her team have won the Lexus Design Award 2018 Russia Тор Choice with their project Grabby: a cutting board for people with disabilities. This year’s topic was “Co-” - combining design and functionality; the prize was a trip to Milan Design Week 2018. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Nadejda talked about how she won the prestigious contest with little experience in industrial design.

  • WorldSkills Russia: Why Participate?

    The qualification round of WorldSkills Russia in Laser Technologies has recently taken place at ITMO; this was the first time the university hosted such a competition. The participants showed their skills in working with laser systems and equipment. The round’s winner, Yaroslav Golubev from the Faculty of Laser and Light Engineering, advanced to the All-Russian round that will take place in late November in Moscow.

  • ITMO Programmers Win Huawei Honor Cup

    ITMO students from the Computer Technology Department - Stanislav Naumov, Alexei  Latyshev and Nikolai Budin - became winners of the competition’s new Codecraft category. This year, more than 4,000 students took part in the annual All-Russian event organized by the Huawei company. The teams had to pass two qualification rounds and solve three optimization tasks in eight hours during the final stage.

  • ICM-2017: ITMO Team Shows Great Results

    The 24th annual International Mathematics Competition for University Students (IMC-2017) has recently taken place in Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria). ITMO University was represented by five students; each of them was awarded a diploma: Gennadiy Korotkevich was awarded a First Prize diploma, Dmitriy Yakutov - a Second Prize diploma and Alexei Latyshev brought home a Third Prize award.

  • Students Contribute to the City : ITMO's Students Completed Projects for the City Administration

    ITMO's students completed a series projects on the order of St. Petersburg City Administration and analyzed the work of railroads, imports phase-out, as well as systems for motivating employees and increasing their efficiency. Best projects took part in the Students Contribute to the City contest; its participants received diplomas and awards. Their projects were praised by Vice-Governor Vladimir Kirillov; ITMO's Rector Vladimir Vasilyev underlined that such events give students the opportunity to be assessed by real experts.
