    ITMO University has hosted the European Control Conference, one of the world’s largest conferences on control theory. This year, due to the pandemic, the conference took place online. However, according to the organizers this had a positive, rather than negative effect on the number of attendees.

  • Schneider Electric Becomes Key Partner of Industrial Cyber-Physical Systems Master's Program

    ITMO University and the international power equipment manufacturer Schneider Electric have entered a partnership agreement. According to the document, the partners will jointly develop and launch a corporate Master’s program that will develop the project based learning approach by involving the faculty and students in next-gen projects at modern manufacturing facilities.

  • ITMO Roboticists Developing a Financially Independent Robot Artist

    A team of PhD students from ITMO University’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics are developing a fully autonomous robot artist. The project aims to demonstrate the possibility of creating autonomous systems using the principles of robonomics. ITMO.NEWS got in touch with developers Ivan Berman, Alexei Ovcharov, and Vadim Manaenko to learn about their project, the ethics of robot-human interaction, and their collaboration with the MIT Media Lab.

  • Me & My Robot: ITMO Roboticists Feature in a Documentary by American Filmmaker Mark Decena

    The members of ITMO University’s robotics team from Creative Robotics Lab have been put in the spotlight in the documentary by an American documentary maker and director Mark Decena. Me & My Robot follows the young roboticists as they compete for gold at the World Robot Olympiad. The documentary has been presented at CPH:DOX, one of the largest and most prestigious international documentary festivals currently being held online. You can watch the film for free until April 5.

  • “I Am a Professional”: Competition Winners on Experience Gained and Opportunities Discovered

    More than 90 students of ITMO University have been named winners of the national competition I Am a Professional, 19 of them receiving the top prize as medal winners. All of the students will not only gain renown, but also significant advantages when enrolling in Master’s and PhD programs of the competition’s partner universities, an opportunity to do an internship at some of Russia’s top companies, and a monetary prize of 100,000 to 300,000 rubles. ITMO.NEWS met with some of this year’s winners to find out what brought them to the competition, how difficult they found the final tasks, and what opportunities they’ve discovered through this experience.

  • ITMO University Team Takes Third Place in Bauman Robotics Club Tournament

    ITMO University’s first-year students visited Moscow to participate in the Bauman Robotics Club tournament, which was held at the Institute of Control Science of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The St. Petersburg participants were the only team that wasn’t representing Bauman Moscow State Technical University at the competition, and took third place on its completion.     Founded by ITMO University and Boston University College of Engineering professors, The MerkleBot company has headquarters in Silicon Valley and a developer office in St. Petersburg. Recently, the startup was awarded in the Robotics category at DeveloperWeek, the world’s biggest developer conference. After that, it was noticed by major companies.
