  • For the Benefit of the Environment: ITMO Specialists Develop Biodegradable Food Packaging and Nutritious Plant-Based Food

    Specialists from ITMO University’s School of Biotechnology and Cryogenic Systems work on a wide range of projects that are highly promising for the refrigeration, food, and waste processing industries. For instance, at the moment the scientists at the Faculty of Food Biotechnologies and Engineering are developing biodegradable coatings and packaging for food products and working on the creation of food products for different consumer categories, including vegetarians and vegans. The latter two projects are headed by Natalia Yakovchenko, senior lecturer at ITMO University. ITMO.NEWS spoke to Prof. Yakovchenko to find out more about the research, its relevance, and the environmental component.

  • Megabyte Media Launches New Podcast About Oncologic Diseases

    Megabyte Media – a joint student media at ITMO University – has launched a new project, Q.E.D. (Latin for “which was to be proven” – ed. note), a podcast about evidence-based medicine created in collaboration with the Cancer Prevention Foundation. The podcast will focus on oncology, discussing issues and busting common myths. New episodes are to come out every two weeks, with the first one released on May 14.

  • Suvorov Canals: Russia and Finland to Cooperate on Development of Important Historical Objects

    The project on the restoration and development of a complex of canals and fortresses located in the border territory between Finland and Russia unites seven organizations from both countries, including ITMO University. The Faculty of Software Engineering and Computer Systems’ Center of Usability and Mixed Reality contributes as a technological partner – its remit includes the development of different multimedia and an interactive map of the project.

  • Radario Founder and Former ITMO Student Anton Bryantsev on Skills for a Successful Startup

    Anton Bryantsev studied automation and mechatronics at ITMO University, but left after his fourth year. In 2012, together with his business partner Sergey Suchkov, Anton founded a ticketing service Radario and became its chief technology officer. Now, Radario unites 30 ticket operators and platforms and is developing a single ecosystem for the automation of sales and technology-savvy promotion of events. ITMO.NEWS got in touch with Anton to find out whether having technological knowledge is a must for an entrepreneur, how he managed to build a successful startup, and what qualities he looks for in an employee.

    Profimap is an online service for career guidance in the field of IT. Among its features are tests, analysis of soft skills, recommendations on specializations and educational institutions, as well as career advice. The service was created by ITMO University students Dmitry Pokidov and Veronika Petrukhina. Now there are six people on their team, including Nail Khabibulin, also an ITMO University graduate.
