  • ITMO University and JetBrains Launch New Master’s Degree Program

    ITMO University and the company JetBrains are launching a new corporate Master’s degree program “Software Engineering”. JetBrains will also train Bachelor’s degree students of second, third and fourth years in the subjects “Programming Languages” and “Machine Learning” at the Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.

  • Gennady Korotkevich Wins Yandex.Algorithm for Fifth Time

    Gennady Korotkevich, a Master's student from the Department of Computer Technologies at ITMO University and a two-time champion of ACM ICPC, has won the competition Yandex.Algorithm for the fifth time. He was also the only participant to complete all the tasks of the competition.

  • ITMO University Team Wins First Place at Google Hash Code 2018

    In late April, the final stage of Google Hash Code 2018, the programming competition which brings together thousands of students and professionals from Europe, Middle East and Africa took place in Dublin. ITMO University’s student team, which included Ilya Zban, Ivan Belonogov, Mikhail Putilin and Adam Bardashevich, all medal winners of the recent years’ ACM ICPC competition, secured the first place by outperforming 39 teams from 15 countries.

  • ITMO Programmers Make It to Google HashCode Finals

    The qualifying round of Google HashCode, a team competition in engineering programming, has ended in early March. Two teams from ITMO University finished in the 2nd and 5th places, having competed with almost 5,000 teams from around the world.  On April 28 the teams will compete in HashCode finals in Dublin.

  • Digital Culture: Why Everyone Should Learn Programming

    Starting in 2018, all newly-enrolled Bachelor’s and Master’s students at ITMO University will study digital culture regardless of their area of studies and educational program.     Being a programmer at a major company doesn’t mean that you’ll get to relax while writing code and using the technologies you like most; on the contrary, you’ll have to look for new solutions, meet strict deadlines, learn to read code written by others and be really meticulous about the development process.   • ITMO University Hosts GoTo Project School

    Each school break, the GoTo programming project school holds sessions in different parts of Russia, bringing together talented school and university students. At such events, they are given the opportunity to work on projects in such fields as data analysis, machine learning, industrial programming, IoT, bioinformatics, distributed systems and blockchain. GoTo’s autumn session at ITMO University involved 50 university students and highschoolers from all around the country. The participants developed individual projects under the guidance of experts from leading IT companies, and attended lectures and workshops by the school’s teachers and guest speakers.

  • Programmer Daria Yakovleva: "You shouldn’t be afraid to try something new"

    Computer science isn’t just about knowing how to design algorithms, analyse data or work with functions. First and foremost, it is about creativity, which computer scientists use to solve problems that no one has solved before and to improve both household and industrial processes. Today’s Master’s programs don’t teach theoretical knowledge – Bachelor’s programs should cover that. In Master’s programs students are taught how to apply this knowledge in practice, says Daria Yakovleva, Master’s student from ITMO’s Department of Computer Technologies. We spoke to Daria about taking part in internships, competitions and activities at the university and how that can help one’s future career.

  • ITMO Programmers Win Huawei Honor Cup

    ITMO students from the Computer Technology Department - Stanislav Naumov, Alexei  Latyshev and Nikolai Budin - became winners of the competition’s new Codecraft category. This year, more than 4,000 students took part in the annual All-Russian event organized by the Huawei company. The teams had to pass two qualification rounds and solve three optimization tasks in eight hours during the final stage.
