• ITMO Students Develop Smart AI Examiner

  Students from the open-source club ITMO CRUDoshleps have designed TuneAI, an AI-powered tool that helps with conducting and evaluating tests and interviews. The tool reviews answers based on lectures, presentations, and other teaching materials; test authors can set answer keys and grading systems. The platform was developed by Grigory Sadovoy and Maksim Chusovlyanov, students of the System and Applied Software Bachelor’s program, who presented their platform at the 2026 YaC/e conference in Moscow.

In 2026, however, experts see a radical shift: AI is becoming a full-on thinking partner and transforming the educational process. • ITMO Researchers Develop Test for Aptamer Analysis AI Models

  Scientists from ITMO’s Center for AI in Chemistry have released AptaBench, the first specialized benchmark for verifying models that predict the interaction of aptamers with small molecules. Aptamers find their applications in diagnostics, biosensors, and medicine development, and thus have practical significance for biomedicine. Such models can facilitate the search for new aptamers by selecting the most promising variants that are then verified in the lab. However, before scientists can trust such predictions, it’s important to verify how good the models can process data they haven’t seen before. AptaBench can conduct this verification in standardized conditions.

• ITMO Master’s Students Create Homework-Checker AI Assistant for Avito

  Students of ITMO Master’s program AI Talent Hub have come out with Avito AI Reviewer, a prototype AI assistant for use by the teaching staff of Avito’s educational programs. The company is planning to cut down on routine work when checking homework without relying on AI for the final grade: the service prepares a preliminary review based on the established criteria, highlights questionable points, and suggests questions that could be used to check students’ comprehension of the topic.

• ITMO Professor Sergey Kolyubin Awarded Yandex ML Prize

  Sergey Kolyubin, a professor at the Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics, the head of the International Laboratory “Embodied AI and Robotics,” and the deputy head of the School of Computer Technologies and Control, has been named one of the winners of Yandex ML Prize 2026 in the category Program Leaders. The award annually honors lecturers and heads of educational programs who have significantly contributed to AI and ML education in Russia. In 2026, eight specialists from ITMO University, HSE University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Novosibirsk State University received the award.

• ITMO’s New AI Tool To Help Students Defend Theses

  Imagine a future software developer about to defend their graduation project. They prepare the presentation, check their code, and look over its description. In a perfect world, all of these match. At the defense, however, it turns out that one feature was moved to a different module, another remained in the drafts, and a third one is working but isn’t mentioned in the text. That’s quite a common case not only for students, but for developers all over the world. ITMO’s answer to this is OSA.Edu, an AI tool that verifies the code’s actual functions against its description. The system works as an editor and helps students correct their work before submitting it to the committee. Having passed the initial testing by dozens of graduates, the tool is now available to a wider audience.

• No Hallucinations: AI Lecturer to Assist in Higher Math Classes at ITMO

  ITMO University has launched AI Lecturer, an educational platform that students can use to master math courses – solve complex problems and prepare for tests. Unlike other popular models like ChatGPT, the possibility of the platform hallucinating has been brought down to near zero: it has been trained on educational curricula, includes additional verification modules, and will call for a human lecturer in complex cases. The solution has already been tested by students of the AI Engineering program, and starting this academic year, it will be introduced into the first-year curriculum.
