  • Russian Team Claims 24 Medals at the International Advanced Tournament in Informatics in Bulgaria

    The Russian national team took home fifteen gold and nine silver medals at the XVI International Advanced Tournament in Informatics (IATI), which took place in Bulgaria on April 9-13. The students joined the event remotely. The senior team’s coach was Andrey Stankevich, an associate professor and the dean of ITMO’s Information Technologies and Programming Faculty.

  • Next Stop – Houston: School Students from St. Petersburg Win FIRST Tech Challenge Championship

    Sputnik Original, a team of school students from St. Petersburg, reigned supreme at last month's international robotics competition FIRST Tech Challenge Championship in Italy. They outperformed more than 40 teams from 13 countries, becoming the event’s absolute winners. The team trains at Lyceum No. 244, where they are mentored by university students, including Master’s students from ITMO who once graduated from the school and have now returned to teach supplementary courses. What awaits the team next? The world finals in Houston (USA) in late April. ITMO NEWS got to talk to the team and now shares their story.

  • ITMO Student Wins China Intelligent Robot Fighting and Gaming Competition

    Natalia Leshchenko, a student of ITMO’s Faculty of Control Systems and Robotics, took first place at the China Intelligent Robot Fighting and Gaming Competition in Beijing, competing as part of the team of the Beijing Institute of Technology in the category Visual Confrontation. Overall, the competition welcomed 1,692 teams from 184 Chinese universities.

    Your Turn is the biggest student project in Russia that helps implement student initiatives, with its platform boasting 1.7 million users. This year’s winners from ITMO presented their projects in design and digital technologies, as well as those aimed to assist people with disabilities.

  • ITMO Students Win 3.4 Million Rubles at AI Junior Challenge

    Several first-year Bachelor’s students from ITMO University have won two gold and three bronze medals at the international AI Junior Challenge. The winners received a total of 3.4 million rubles in prizes, as well as internship offers from the competition’s partners.

  • ITMO Students Develop AI Model to Detect Car Malfunctions

    Daria Ledneva and Timur Ionov, students of ITMO’s Institute of Applied Computer Science, became winners in the Artificial Intelligence and Data Analysis Olympiad (AIDAO) organized by Yandex Education and HSE University. Their team, AI Capybara, suggested an AI model that detects car malfunctions – a solution that drew the interest of the ridesharing service Yandex Taxi (Yandex Go).

  • Five Continents – One Tournament: BRICS+ CTF Finals Held at ITMO University

    Five continents, 105 countries, and 1,257 teams – Russia has recently hosted the online cybersecurity competition BRICS+ CTF. The final round of the contest, co-organized by ITMO University, took place on November 16 and welcomed 20 teams from eight countries. The team Friendly Maltese Citizens (international) finished first, followed by NE_SPRUSH (Russia) and Bushwhackers (Russia).
