  • Tourism by Numbers: ITMO University Presents Projects at Saint Petersburg Travel Hub Expo

    The forum and exhibition Saint Petersburg Travel hub, which gathered members of the nation’s tourist community and participants from 57 regions of the country, has recently come to a close. This year’s Travel Hub coincided with the 23rd session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization. One of the forum’s topics was the digital transformation of the travel industry. ITMO University took part in the exhibition; its staff presented a number of interdisciplinary projects that weave together the history and culture of St. Petersburg with digital technologies.


  • Work on the Plot, Not the Graphics: Making VR-Gaming Mainstream

    Why are emotional context and the plot more important in a game than graphics? How can we save VR from fading into obscurity once the hype dies down and promote its use in not only gaming but elsewhere? Nelson Zagalo, associate professor of the University of Aveiro (Portugal), author of several books on videogame history and an active member of the Portuguese Society of Video Games Sciences, answered these questions. He was a guest at the second meeting of the VR/AR Association & ITMO University, organized by ITMO’s Department of Graphic Technologies of together with the project and the International Association for Virtual and Augmented Reality. Here are the highlights of his speech.


  • VR/AR Association & ITMO University Spring Kickoff: Trends and Philosophy of Virtual Reality

    ITMO University’s Department of Engineering and Computer Graphics, Center of Mixed Reality and Interface Design, the Video360Production project and the VR/AR Association have launched a series of events dedicated to the use of virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies. Discussions will concern not only matters of the industry, but also the deeper aspects of VR as a new paradigm of existence. The first event’s discussions touched upon today’s VR/AR market, “gratuals and ingratuals”, and why philosophy is an integral part of virtual reality.


  • Video360Production Films Construction Sites In Crimea

    On April 20th, it was the opening of Yalta International Economic Forum (YIEF), which is one of the four major Russian economic forums alongside St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Eastern Economic Forum and the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi. As part of the event, Crimea's top officials checked the construction process of the projects that are now built on the shore of the Black Sea. The data on these projects was presented not as documents, but 360-degree videos filmed by Video360Production's team.  The videos depicted the construction of the Simferopol airport, two big residential complexes and one of the two conventional thermal power stations that will provide energy for the whole peninsula.  ITMO.NEWS learned about how the filming process, and what were the main difficulties Video360Production's team had to solve.


  • Video360Production Becomes Samsung Russia’s Official Partner

    ITMO's Video360Production project has signed a cooperation agreement with Samsung Russia. Together with Russia Today and ECM VR Films Festival, Video360Project is now an official partner of the Korean company in the field of VR content. Now, videos made by the team from ITMO University are available in the Samsung VR service.
