On April 3-10, 2019, St. Petersburg hosts the annual Week of Germany. 

ITMO University is a contributor to the festival's program, with its Science Communication Center organizing a discussion dedicated to the changing social mission of scientists and scientific organizations. 

The event will take place on April 6, starting at 5pm. Drawing on the example of modern universities and scientific organizations from Russia and Germany, eminent experts will talk about how scientists influence the socioeconomic environment around them by sharing their knowledge with the wider public.

Among the speakers are:

  • Alexander Struck, PhD, professor at the Faculty of Technology and Bionics of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences;
  • Birte Fahnrich, PhD, senior researcher and coordinator of the interdisciplinary research group "Implications of Digitization for the Quality of Science" at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities;
  • Alexandra Borisova, Candidate of Sciences, co-founder and president of the Association for Communication in Education and Science (AKSON);
  • Daria Dvorzhitskaya, a researcher at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) and ITMO University's Science Communication Center, a graduate of the Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences.

Moderating the event will be Dmitry Malkov, director of ITMO University's Science Communication Center. 

The discussion will be held in Russian and German.
