The new center will be based on the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISPMS SB RAS).
“Thanks to foresight research one can predict market trends for 5-15 years. It gives an opportunity to concentrate manufacturing, human and financial resources in the perspective business area,” says Petr Kaminskii, the deputy head of Department of Innovative Development of the Russian Academy of Science.
Natalia Lukovnikova, the head of the Science and Technology Foresight Department of ITMO University, says that nowadays ITMO University collaborates not only with Tomsk University but also with Perm National Research Polytechnic University. The next conference on photonics in Perm includes the project of development of Science and Technology Foresight Centers chain. Both of these universities will participate in it. Moreover ITMO University and Tomsk University collaborate in the field of medicine. Thus Institute of Translational Medicine was foundedby ITMO University in 2014 while Tomsk University is a coordinator of Perspective Medical Supplies Council and the project “Medicine of Future”.
The main target of Science and Technology Foresight Center is to estimate the new technologies and their practical application. For example, the Science and Technology Foresight Department of ITMO University develops quantum technologies generated by the International Institute “Photonics and Optical Information” under supervision of Arthur Gleim.
