The project is aimed at students with prior experience in the fields of chemistry and information technologies. The program has a total of eight tuition-free places.
In two years, the program’s students will pick up the basics of oil and gas engineering, become cognizant of business processes involved in oil chemistry, and master experimental methods for studying fluids and reagents, as well as automation and modeling of oil and gas production processes.
ITMO University students will partake in projects on the development of software for oil search. Gazprom Neft will also offer them an opportunity to participate in the work of its petrochemistry research and education center.
The project is implemented within the framework of Gazprom Neft Corporate University’s program, an initiative focused on collaboration with Russia’s leading universities. The best students will be awarded corporate scholarships. The teaching staff will include experts from Gazprom Neft’s Science and Technology Center.
“We have been working quite closely with Gazprom Neft for five years now, which is why we have decided to strengthen our strategic plans within the framework of our joint program in Bioeconomics and Resource Management. There is considerable demand in the oil and gas industry for specialists capable of forecasting and preventing complications arising in the handling of hydrocarbons. For example, asphalt-resin-paraffin and hydrate deposits that appear on the inner surface of pipes during the transportation and production of oil. Such unique specialists are highly valued,” stresses Maya Uspenskaya, head of the Master’s program and professor at ITMO University’s Faculty of Applied Optics.
“The company is expanding its network of academic partnerships with key Russian universities by opening specialized departments and research centers. Thanks to the new project with ITMO, the number of the joint Master’s we implement together with various universities will increase to 15 programs in the field of geological exploration and oil production. Specialists of the company’s Science and Technology Center participate in course design and take on the role of lecturers. This gives students an opportunity to immerse themselves in topical industry specifics, start working on real-life projects, and join our team after graduation,” notes Alexei Vashkevich, Director for Technology Development of Gazprom Neft.
