Currently, there are almost no such specialists on the market; however, as next-gen satellite communications develop, the demand for engineers capable of bridging terrestrial and satellite communications is going to rapidly grow. Solving this task requires deep interdisciplinary knowledge.
The new track Wireless Algorithms will train specialists with expertise at the intersection of four fields: programming, math, telecommunications, and aerospace technologies. Graduates will learn to develop algorithms for new satellite communication standards and will be able to build careers as research engineers, network communication modelling experts, and system analysts.
In the track, ITMO’s fundamental expertise in radio physics is supplemented by the practical engineering experience of Bureau 1440, a developer and operator of a low-orbit satellite constellation for high-speed global coverage communications. The company’s engineers have developed the curriculum and will act as lecturers for specialized courses, also involving students in their research projects. Students will also receive a stipend from the company.
The track is developed according to modern standards and covers the use of AI as a basic component of engineering. Students will learn to analyze big data and develop custom solutions for its processing. A special focus is placed on project management, a key competence for engineers.

Companies had to look for the right specialists for months, while graduates of more classical specializations needed to learn on the go once they were employed. Our new Master’s track at ITMO is the first to teach these skills in a separate specialization. The new track is part of X Holding’s strategy for training of engineers in high-tech fields. In this academic year, X Holding is offering 417 positions in Bachelor’s and Master’s programs for future engineers at 7 leading tech universities. Bureau 1440 is accepting applications for Bachelor’s programs at Bauman Moscow State Technical University, ITMO University, Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics, and Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technologies. YADRO, another member of the holding, is accepting applications for Bachelor’s and Master’s programs at MIPT, National Research University of Electronic Technology, HSE University in St. Petersburg, ITMO University, and Siberian State University of Telecommunications and Informatics. MIPT applicants also have access to the joint Master’s program by YADRO and Bureau 1440 in industrial software development.
