From June 30 to July 4, Xi-Cheng Zhang, the director of the Institute of Optics of University of Rochester, will visit St. Petersburg. World known expert in the field of optics will discuss details of the program of cooperation with representatives of the University and will deliver a lecture at the XVI International Conference “LASER OPTICS 2014".
In 2014 the ITMO University has organized the partnership with Professor Xi-Cheng Zhang, the director of the Institute of Optics of the University of Rochester, the one of the largest U.S. universities. Xi-Cheng Zhang will be the head of the International Institute "Photonics and Optical Information Technology" of the ITMO University. During the visit of professor at the St. Petersburg the representatives of the ITMO University will discuss joint work and will sign a cooperation agreement. We already know that Xi-Cheng Zhang will determine the development strategy of the institute "Photonics and Optical Information Technology" and coordinate basic research directions in of scientific activity of the ITMO University in the field of optical technologies.
For the ITMO University, as for the participant of the program to improve the competitiveness of Russian universities of the world's leading research and education centers, development of international partnerships is one of the most important directions. In 2014, the University opened 30 new international educational programs; the double degree program with the University of Rochester is among them. Cooperation with major foreign universities and leading scientists from around the world allows the ITMO University to develop actively in order to reach a qualitatively new level.

July 1 Xi-Cheng Zhang will deliver a lecture at the conference “LASER OPTICS 2014", one of the organizers of which is the ITMO University. American expert will present the work of the Institute of Optics of the University of Rochester, the activities of the Optical Society of the United States and the publication of one of the largest in the field magazines Optical Letters. The lecture will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn (97A, Moscovskiy Prospect), which will be able to be visited by all the students and staff of the ITMO University with the advance registration here.

Xi-Cheng Zhang is one of the world's most renowned experts in the field of optics, optoelectronics, and plasma physics. His research laid the foundation of laser terahertz spectroscopy. Xi-Cheng Zhang became the owner of 28 patents, author of two dozen books, more than three hundred scientific articles published in leading peer-reviewed scientific journals. He is a member of the Optical Society of America and the American Physical Society, and an honorary professor at Moscow State University and consulting professor at Shanghai University of Science and Technology.
