  • Russian and Finnish Students Learn About Business Together with FIRST+

    30 students from Finland and Russia are currently attending the “Project-Based Approach to Business Canvas Model” intensive program in St. Petersburg. They learn about the use of business process engineering tools and work on cases of major companies like Valio, SOK and Bonava. ITMO University was chosen as one of the program’s main venues. The week-long course was made possible thanks to collaboration between ITMO University and the Tampere University of Applied Science, and a grant from the FIRST+ program, which promotes collaboration and partnership between universities of Russia and Finland.

  • Exchange semester in France: a Life-Changing Experience

    Maria Garets, a student at the Department of Intelligent Technologies in Humanities at ITMO University, spent her winter semester at Eurecom, a graduate school and research centre in communication systems established by one of the top French universities, Telecom ParisTech. Eurecom is located at the heart of Sophia Antipolis, Europe’s largest technopark, a hotbed for internships and job opportunities. ITMO.NEWS asked Maria about her experience of studying in France.

  • Exchange Students from Brazil: 'They're Always Happy'

    Students from around the world have come to participate in the IT and Innovation Business in Russia exchange semester at ITMO. Among them is a bright and bubbly group from Brazil. Every year a group of four or five students come from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in Vittoria, on the east coast of Brazil, to join our exchange semester. Last year we talked to Esthevão who shared about what brought him to Russia. This year we talk with Angelo, Thales, Caio, Mateus and Yan who have been here for five weeks now, about their experience so far.

  • How an ITMO Student Helped Develop 5G Networks in EU

    Anton Gusarov, a PhD student at the High-Performance Computing Department, spent nearly three weeks working on the European Union’s project SILIKA as a visiting researcher at the Chalmers University of Technology. The project aims to establish a technological foundation for next-gen 5G mobile networks. Funded by the EC Horizon 2020 program, it involves scientists from Sweden, the Netherlands, and Belgium, as well as representatives of major companies.

But for an urbanist, this city, with all its sights, is still a place where many issues are yet to be solved. How do you set up new spaces in the old city, ensure pedestrian connectivity and make a city modern? Ekaterina Grekhnyova, a Master’s student at ITMO University, tackled these and other tasks during a semester spent at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.   • Academic Mobility: ITMO Student on Studying in Poland

    Artem Koksharov, Master’s student at ITMO’s Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations spent the last semester at one of Poland’s most prestigious universities - Wrocław University of Science and Technology. In the course of a single semester, he studied management in the field of computer technologies, got to know the European approach to personal data security, started to learn Polish and visited seven different countries in his free time.  In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, Artem talked about the peculiarities of studying in Poland, and why Wrocław is one of the best European cities for students.

  • Academic Mobility: Studying Biotechnology at Sup Biotech Paris

    Aleksandra Predeina, Alena Moiseenko and Elena Panasuk, students at ITMO’s Faculty of Food Biotechnologies and Engineering, spent the last semester at Sup’Biotech Paris - a French private school that focuses on training specialists in different fields of biotechnology, from aesthetic medicine to pharmaceutics and agricultural production. In the course of several months, not only did they get to familiarize themselves with new fields, but develop several projects, as well. For instance, they’ve proposed the concept of protective gear for sportsmen and come up with a solution for the food crisis we’ll be facing in 2050 when Earth’s population will amount to 9 billion. In an interview for ITMO news, they talked about the peculiarities of studying and living in France.

  • Chemist Ekaterina Skorb On International Work Experience And Prospects Of Infochemistry

    In the course of her scientific career, Ekaterina Skorb has worked in four different countries. After receiving her education in Minsk, she continued  with  her research at Max Planck Institute in Germany where she led a research team and developed smart biomaterials. At Harvard, she worked in the team of George Whitesides, the world’s most cited chemist, on several fundamental projects, including the Origins of Life. As of now, Ekaterina Skorb is a professor at ITMO University, leading a research team in its Biochemistry Cluster. Among its key projects are creating dynamic optical materials, biochips that would allow to diagnose a wide range of diseases, and fundamental research in the field of storing information with the help of chemical systems. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, she talked about her work in the world’s major universities and moving to Russia, key research areas, and combining chemistry with IT.

  • Internships in Belgium: How to Apply and What to Expect

    Elena Eremeeva and Daniil Ilatovskiy are Master's students at ITMO's SCAMT laboratory who have recently completed internships at universities in Belgium. They had an opportunity to use new equipment there as well as become acquainted with how research work is conducted in Europe. This experience will help them to better organize their research and improve the operation of the entire SCAMT (Solution Chemistry of Advanced Materials and Technologies) Laboratory. The students were able to take part in the internships thanks to academic mobility competitions organized by the university.
