National Technology Revolution 20.35: Universities as Driving Force of Change
Today’s universities institute innovation ecosystems, where they send their graduates equipped with skills necessary for working in a hi-tech company. They create new businesses and jobs in the innovation sector by launching their intellectual property on the market. They also contribute to the development of urban fringes. According to the participants of a roundtable taking place as part of the third BarCamp ‘National Technology Revolution 20.35’, which has recently been held in St. Petersburg’s ‘Tochka Kipeniya’ coworking space, a modern university should adopt the paradigm of ‘changing itself, its environment, and then, people’. Twin Campus: New Joint Project by ITMO and XAMK
ITMO University and South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences (XAMK) have received approval for their Twin campus joint project. The initiative’s key result will be creating a Russian-Finnish platform for modernization and internationalization of small and medium entrepreneurship that will simultaneously operate in St. Petersburg, at ITMO’s new Highpark, and in Kotka, on the base of the new XAMK campus. The project gives Russian technological companies an opportunity to enter international markets, as well as to promote technologies developed at ITMO University.

ITMO.Highpark Begins New Stage of Development
On September 4 the central headquarters of Interfax news agency in Moscow hosted a press conference dedicated to the beginning of implementation of the ITMO.Highpark innovations center. Konstantin Noskov, the Russian Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, announced the start of a new stage of this project’s development.

ITMO Develops Russia’s First Standard for Designing Innovative Research and Educational Centers
ITMO University has recently developed the GREEN ZOOM UNIVERSITIES standard for innovative R&D centers, which can be used as a basis for creating high-end research and educational centers. The project has been carried out as part of the Open St. Petersburg small innovative enterprise. GREEN ZOOM UNIVERSITIES is the first standard in Russia that is designed for building innovative research and educational institutions according to the smart city concept and energy-efficient and environmentally friendly construction. ITMO's new research and educational center ITMO Highpark will become the first facility to be built in accordance with the new standard. The project's authors note that in the future, the new solution can be applied when constructing other Russian innovative research and educational institutions.

IV International Spatial Development Forum: What You Need to Know about Building a Campus
The fourth international spatial development forum was recently held in St. Petersburg at the “Manege” Central Exhibition Hall. The theme of this year’s forum was “iCities: New Codes - New Rules”. The forum’s organizers went from an impersonal discussion of buildings, technology and development programs to the essence of a human-oriented city, based on the principles of citizen engagement and sustainable development, and also the use of smart technologies. The future of Russia’s innovative campuses was also discussed at the forum.

InnoJam: Students Help Develop Smart Solutions for ITMO’s New Campus
Last week, ITMO University’s Convergent Innovations Center and SAP University Alliances conducted an InnoJam design-thinking session that challenged participants to provide smart, innovative solutions for the organization of flexible educational spaces at ITMO’s new campus. Students from ITMO University, Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and St. Petersburg State University of Telecommunications developed app prototypes and concept designs of the future campus’s spaces and interiors.

St. Petersburg Governor Poltavchenko Elected as ITMO Highpark Chairman of Board
The decision was made during the first session of ITMO Highpark’s Board of Directors. Highpark is a new scientific, educational and innovative center in the south of St. Petersburg. The meeting itself was held on December 20 at ITMO University. Also present at the session was Nikolay Nikiforov, the Russian Minister of Communications and Mass Media. Mr. Nikiforov noted that this project will take the form of a complete ecosystem aimed at supporting research, innovative projects and the quality of life for young specialists.

ITMO’s 7th International Council Meeting in Arizona
This week, the members of ITMO’s International Council gathered at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ for the 7th International Council meeting. Experts from all over the globe offered their thoughts on the most recent roadmap that was presented before the Project 5-100 International Council last month and contributed their ideas for future plans.
