• ITMO Graduate Maksim Latkin on His Experience of Working as a Systems Engineer

  When Maksim Latkin was still a student at ITMO University, he started to work at Selectel, a leading IT infrastructure provider in Russia. During the next four years, he went from being an intern to working as a systems engineer. • ITMO Researchers Create an Algorithm To Help Reduce the Risk of Complications in Cardiovascular Diseases

  The machine-learning-based algorithm is developed by ITMO’s National Center for Cognitive Research. By analyzing data on patients’ well-being and lifestyle, the program will help physicians make timely decisions on prescribing treatment, drugs, or surgery. The study was published in Journal of Computational Science.

  Experts from NRW.Global Business Russia, the trade and investment agency of the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia were invited to this meeting. They discussed the possibilities of placing Russian companies on the European market. Green economy, sustainable development, and international cooperation between Russian and German businesses were key topics of the event.

• ITMO University Opens International Cybersecurity Center in St. Petersburg

  On May 14, ITMO launched the Safety and Security of Critical Information Technologies international research center. Here, students will receive practical training on dealing with cyber threats while working on real-life projects. At the launch, special training was held at the National Cyber Testing Ground, one the largest information security projects in Russia.

• Yandex’s Andrey Sebrant on Progress, Society and Podcasts

  Andrey Sebrant, the strategic marketing director at Yandex and one of the pioneers of Runet, recently came to ITMO to record another episode of his podcast. This time, he spoke to the dean of the university’s Faculty of Infocommunication Technologies Alexandr Kapitonov. Prior to recording the episode, Andrey Sebrant gave an interview to ITMO.NEWS and spoke about how technologies change modern society, the evolution of the high tech business in recent years, as well as which novelty in the field of higher education he deems among the most useful.

• It’s Your Call! Forum Winning Projects: Fighting Burnout and Recycling Face Masks

  This year, ITMO University held the It’s Your Call! student educational forum for the fourth time. The forum is part of the I am a Professional student contest, where ITMO oversees five competitional tracks. On Saturday, May 15, the best teams presented the projects they had been developing for five days. ITMO.NEWS visited the contest’s final and talked to the forum’s winners.

• Biologist Dmitry Zhukov on Stress, Depression, and Displacement Activities

  As part of the Mental Health Month, ITMO University arranged a lecture on stress and ways to deal with it, given by Dmitry Zhukov, a biologist, professor at the Pavlov Institute of Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, writer, laureate of the Enlightener Prize, and author of the best-selling book Стой, кто ведет? Биология поведения человека и других зверей (Stop, Who’s Leading? Biology of Human and Animal Behavior). He discussed the biological meaning of stress in humans and animals, ways of dealing with it, and how to minimize the harm it causes. ITMO.NEWS has prepared a summary of the lecture.
