For three days, the participants got advanced training, met experts, took part in round tables and competed for awards in 13 nominations of the final round.

Umidjon Pakhimov from ITMO's Institute of International Business and Law was one of the 12 students who competed in the "Foreign Student of the Year" category.

The contest consisted of three rounds. The first was the regional one; its winners were recommended for the next, All-Russian Distant Round. Its participants were to complete several tasks remotely and send them in. Up to 25 of them were chosen for each nomination of the final round of the contest.

Before joining a Master's Degree program at ITMO, Umidjon Rakhimov got his Bachelor's degree at the Omsk State Technical University. His achievements there allowed him to get to the Student of the Year-2016 finals — he was named Student of the Year of Omsk and gained awards for his research and public activity as well.

We'd like to add that the Student of the Year All-Russian award is aimed at defining and supporting Russia's educational establishments that have achieved much in such fields as science, arts, sports, journalism, youth politics, student leadership and public activity.

The award is organized by the "Russian Youth Union".
