In 2026, ITMO climbed from third to second place in the ranking compared to last year. The first place went to HSE University (114 winners), while the second and third places are shared by ITMO and MSU, with 97 winners each. ITMO is also in the top three by the number of student applications that passed the initial selection.
For six years in a row, ITMO has been among the top five in the ranking. This year, the greatest number of winners at the university study at the School of Life Sciences (20 students), the School of Translational Information Technologies (18 students), and the Faculty of Technological Management and Innovations (15 students).
A total of 1,000 students from 71 Russian universities will be receiving personal monthly 30,000-ruble scholarships starting from February 2026 and until the end of their studies.
The Vladimir Potanin Foundation scholarship program aims to develop the educational environment and promote the values of knowledge, professionalism, creativity, and volunteering. The competition supports the best students from leading Russian universities, creating the conditions necessary for their further professional and personal growth. Since 2004, the foundation has also been publishing annual university rankings.
