Since 2018, the magazine has published its take on the top 100 universities in Russia. Its analysts use data provided by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the results of a survey of the top 100 employers in Russia, as well as open-source information.
Universities are ranked according to five metrics: the demand for their alumni on the job market, quality of networking, quality of teaching, reputation abroad and the Forbes factor (the number of influential businesspeople and other notable individuals among graduates and students – Ed.). ITMO University is at its strongest in the “quality of teaching” metric, where it is among the top three (ITMO has 12 points, just as the two other leading universities – HSE and MEPhI).
To evaluate the quality of teaching, the authors used the data provided by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education. This particular metric comprises five criteria: average wages of the teaching staff, the share of teachers holding academic degrees, the ratio of teachers to students, the share of foreign teachers among the staff, and the availability of double-degree programs. Each of the aforementioned criteria has the same weight; the participating universities could receive up to 15 points for this particular metric.
The longlist of the Forbes ranking numbered 635 universities in total. Just as in the previous year, the Higher School of Economics was recognized as the overall leader. The full version of the ranking (in Russian) can be accessed via this link.
It should also be noted that in 2022 ITMO became the best technical university in Russia in the RUR ranking, was ranked among the top ten Russian universities by U.S. News & World Report, and took the lead in research productivity when it comes to Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Chemistry, and Engineering Sciences, according to the analytics center Expert.
