Description
On May 16, an exhibition by an optical art workshop will open at ITMO’s Museum of Optics. Its participants are engineers and artists challenged with a common task: to find an artistic language in which the laser becomes a new means of expression.
At the core of this exhibition are objects created by laser color marking on titanium surfaces. Metals are oxidized upon exposure to fiber lasers, which is followed by a formation of surface oxide films that depending on beam power, frequency, and speed produce stable colors – ranging from yellow and golden to deep blue and violet. The artistic line-up includes Sasha Obosoblen, Ekaterina Kolosovskaya, Archil Didishvili, Maria Inkova, Margarita Ivanova, and Kseniia Arbuzova.
The exhibition is aimed at anyone interested in contemporary art, laser technologies, materials science, and optical phenomena.
