Conductors of Color Exhibition by Optical Art Workshop

The Conductors of Color exhibition will bring together classical paintings, abstraction, and optical art, with color being the main artistic tool as an orchestra guided by a conductor. ITMO’s Optical Art Workshop will present a separate section of laser and fluorescent paintings, holograms, fractals, and light installations that will put the spotlight on the interaction of art, science, and technology.

On display are mosaic panels by the gallery founder Boris Oshkukov, exclusive lithographs by Aleksander Ivanov, a striking representative of the unofficial art of the USSR, and paintings by contemporary artists: Roman Lyapin, Alexander Borisovsky, Mikhail Dyachkov, Manvel Madoyan, and Vugar Mamedov.

The route at the exhibition is designed as a musical composition complete with a prelude, climax, and finale. Each artist leads and develops their own colorful “melody” by unfolding the true sound of the creative method and style they chose. In Florentine mosaics, colors and their shades are born from stone, they preserve history, and become new notes; in paintings, the colors pulse, layer, and communicate with lines and spaces; and in projects at the intersection of art, science, and technology colors enter a brand new dimension taking a visible form as data, a signal, or code.
