Description

On June 15-19, Art.ITMO.Residency will present the ISS Payload Gallery exhibition featuring a collection of over 80 artworks that will be sent into space in 2022. The mini-exhibition is organized by the Moon Gallery and ITMO’s Art & Science Center.

The Moon Gallery is an international gallery of ideas and art projects that can fairly represent the Earth’s cultural heritage in outer space. The foundation aims to set up the first permanent museum on the Moon. Its collection will include 100 artifacts placed on a 10 x 10 x 1 cm plate.

In February 2022, the first portion of the collection (81 artifacts), will make its space debut aboard NG-17 to dock with the International Space Station (ISS). The complete collection of 100 art objects will go to the Moon as early as 2025.

The ISS Payload Gallery will showcase a collection of the first artifacts ready to amaze the space public. The winning works were selected at an international competition. The shortlist included 66 authors from different countries, including such renowned names as Eduardo Kac and Marcus Neustetter. The collection is not yet completed.

On June 18, at 6 pm, Art.ITMO.Residency will host a mini-conference with the representatives of the Moon Gallery, during which they will speak about the organization's activities. The conference is designed to initiate a dialog and interdisciplinary exchange between space science, technology, and art.
