According to Andrey Bogdanov, head of School`s Program Committee and researcher at Chair of Nanophotonics and Metamaterials, the School was timed to coincided it with International Congress “Lasers & Photonics 2016.” Participants of the Congress also deliver their lectures for international students.

“Thanks to “Lasers & Photonics 2016” we invited well-known lecturers who work in Stanford, New York and Montpellier. Virtual Institute for Artificial Electromagnetic Materials and Metamaterials “METAMORPHOSE,” which is one of the main partners and organizers of the School, initiates similar projects every year in different countries. When we presented a program of the School, it supported this initiative and now we provide it together. Currently research activities in the field of nanophotonics and metamaterials attract lots of researchers. Ideas developed by them have various applications such as optical computing and data transfer. The high-grade qualifications of our speakers make this School one of the best educational project in this field,” said Mr.  Bogdanov.

This year such experts as Mathias Fink (Institut Langevin), Boris Chichkov (Laser Zentrum Hannover), Constantin Simovski (Aalto University), Didier Felbacq (University of Montpellier), Alexander Khanikaev (Queens College) and some ITMO U researchers present their lectures. Professor Shanhui Fan, one of founders of photon crystal theory, will open the last day of the School.

“To reach significant results one has to do more than working in a domestic lab. It is necessary to develop international collaboration. If three or four research groups put joint efforts they will succeed. Students from all over the world take part in the School. So we realize that there are like-minded people who are also interested in this field,” said Pavel Belov, head of International Research Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials.

It is planned to make Summer School for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials EUPROMETA annual. Among its` stakeholders there are St. Petersburg Academic University, Russian Science Foundation and ITMO University Technopark.
