Nina Gavrish, a prominent art historian, has recently gave an open lecture in St. Petersburg. An educational programs coordinator and researcher at the Museum of the Russian Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, in This Is (Not) Art Nina Gavrish moots the open-for-debate questions on the definition of art and what can be considered as civilizational legacy and world-class chefs-d’œuvre. The lecture was followed by a discussion on contemporary art and its new genres, including Science Art. ITMO.NEWS put down the keynotes.

How Russian and French Researchers are Helping to Restore Classic Art
Terahertz radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation located within the frequency spectrum between infrared and radio. It passes well through a variety of materials and is harmless to humans, which opens up a wide range of its possible applications. Researchers at ITMO University are actively working on this subject in collaboration with their French colleagues. Together, the scientists are developing a pulsed terahertz spectrometer for application in the analysis and restoration of artworks. Stanford U.S.-Russia Forum: How Science Communication Helps Bridge Divide Between the Nations
2019 marks the end of the 10th Stanford US-Russia Forum. SURF, as it is also known, is an exchange program for Russian and American students, postdocs, and researchers from the two nations’ top universities, during which the participants can discuss the key topics of US-Russia relations and suggest ways to improve them. Daria Denisova, the deputy head of ITMO University’s Science Communication Center, spoke with ITMO.NEWS about her experience of working on a space project with an MIT researcher, meeting with NASA staff, exploring historical records in the Hoover Tower, and visiting a historical Russian fortress in Fort Ross, California.
