School Students from All Over Russia and Belarus Take Part in the Congress of Young Scientists
The Congress of Young Scientists took place on April 15-18 at ITMO University. This year, school and university students presented their research online. Ten sections for school students were attended by 118 participants from 34 cities all over Russia and Belarus. Their young age didn’t stop the participants from conducting real scientific research with the help of their advisors. We asked some of the students what their projects are about, how they liked the online format, and what they want to work on in future.

Over 2000 Participate in ITMO’s Online Congress of Young Scientists
ITMO University hosted the recent Congress of Young Scientists from April 15 to 18. This was the first time that the event was held online. Everyone was quick to adapt to the new online format, and the schedule remained intact. Overall, the Congress was attended by more than 2000 people from 60 cities in Russia and more than 180 research and educational organizations. Find out more in this article.

ITMO University’s Congress of Young Scientists Held Online for the First Time
The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced theaters, museums and concert halls to move into the digital space – and scientific events are not an exception. This year, the Congress of Young Scientists was set, for the 17th time, to bring together talented researchers at ITMO University. But 2020 turned out to be historic, and this Congress – unique. As part of the reviewed arrangement, young scientists will be presenting their research and communicating with experts on Zoom.

Congress of Young Scientists: Winning Projects
Apart from taking entrance exams, there are other ways to join a Master’s program at ITMO University. For one, you can get a tuition-free position by winning the report contest of the annual Congress of Young Scientists. The winners of this year’s event are already known. Congress of Young Scientists Participant Yaroslav Kapustin: Had I Not Worked on My Own Projects, I Never Would Have Learned What I Know
How do you transfer data and communicate without an internet connection? Yaroslav Kapustin, a student of St. Petersburg’s school No. 225 and a participant of the Congress of Young Scientists, has presented a project that lets its users connect digital devices into a unified data network in the absence of mobile connection. Yaroslav spoke with ITMO.NEWS about his project Radio Chain and how he was able to develop his own projects and win at hackathons while still in school.

Exosuits, Career Guidance Bots, and Water Quality Analysis: Projects by Participants of Congress of Young Scientists
ITMO University has hosted the 8th Congress of Young Scientists. The aim of this event is to promote science, and especially the University’s areas of focus, among the youth. Among the participants of the Congress are not only students of Russian universities, but also school students from all around the country. 8th Congress of Young Scientists: Genetic Algorithms, Robotic Intelligence and Struggle Against Infections
16 years ago, ITMO hosted the first inter-university conference for young scientists. At that time, it brought together about a hundred participants, and its program featured six sections only. With time, the conference attained national recognition and the status of a congress. Last Monday it was the opening of the 8th Congress of Young Scientists, featuring 49 sections, 11 sessions of science schools and 7 school sections, as well as a report contest whose winners will get the opportunity to join ITMO’s Master’s programs without entrance examinations. This time, the event brought together over 2,500 young scientists and students from 200 educational establishments from 45 Russian cities and 10 cities of the neighboring states, as well as 200 school students and representatives of 20 enterprises.

ITMO Scientist Vladislav Gromov: We Want to Make Robots Help People, Not Replace Them
On October 14-18, the Sirius educational center in Sochi hosted as many as two prominent events for young scientists and engineers: the summit ‘Big Challenges for Society, State and Science’ and, as part of that, the Congress of Councils of Young Scientists. These proved to be particularly successful for ITMO University’s Laboratory of Intelligent Technologies in Robotics, which won the ‘Best Practices’ nomination. Vladislav Gromov, a research associate at the laboratory participating in the events, shared with ITMO.NEWS on how he liked the warm and sunny Sochi, why make robots more intelligent, and what projects the state is ready to provide funding for.

High School Students Present Their Research at VII Congress of Young Scientists
ITMO University recently hosted the VII Congress of Young Scientists, an event that aims to promote science to the younger generation. In the course of the event, experts can assess the future scientists' level of training, and the participants get the chance to compare themselves against each other. Apart from students from Russia's different universities, many talented high school students also participated in the Congress. In an interview for ITMO.NEWS, the youngest attendees spoke about their research projects, explained what motivates them to do science, and shared their impressions of the event.

VI Congress of Young Scientists: Students Share Their Stories
14 years ago, ITMO University conducted the first inter-university conference for young scientists. At that time, about a hundred young researchers participated in the event,and the program consisted of six sections. Since then, the conference got national recognition and eventually got the status of a congress. Last Tuesday, the IV Congress of Young Scientists took place. This time, its program includes 50 sections, 20 sessions of different science schools and 3 round tables. Several contests were also part of the event, including the one on science reports that allowed its winners enter a Master's program at ITMO University without taking any exams. More than two thousand young scientists and students gathered for the conference this time. ITMO.NEWS spoke to some of the participants so as to learn their opinion on the current state of scientific community in Russia and the position of the younger generation of researchers in it.
